Norway - Heart Shaped Waffles - Flotevafler
This is usually served cold but it is also delicious hot.
5 eggs
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup sour cream, stirred
1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
Fresh berries or fruit
Whipped cream
In large bowl of electric mixer, beat eggs and sugar on high speed until mixture forms ribbons when beaters are lifted from bowl, about 10 minutes. Beat in salt and cardamom. Sprinkle flour over surface of batter.
Use a rubber spatula to fold in flour, then fold in sour cream and melted butter. Let mixture stand 10 minutes.
Preheat heart shape waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions.
Pour about 3/4 cup batter onto center of waffle iron. close top; bake 2 to 3 minutes on each side over medium heat until waffle is golden and crisp. Serve immediately with berries or other fruit and whipped cream. Or, cool waffles on a rack and serve cold. Makes about 8 waffles or 40 heart shaped pieces.
